November 28- 30, 1958, Bob Herendeen and crew got ready for the move. December 1- 3 were the days of the actual move.

Although fables abound regarding the cross country journey of the Old Grange Hall from its solid foundation along side the old Farm to Market Road a half mile west of Clayton, Mrs Jean Nord, wife of the late Lyle Nord recorded the trek.

It now rests on the old Loomis/Nord place.

Thank you Jean Nord.

There it sits, ready as it will ever be. All in the hands of heavy hauler Bob Herendeen. It's on a wide variety heavy duty carriage. Each designed for road travel. Not cross country travel.

It was cold out. It had to be. They had to traverse frozen terrain, an otherwise soggy creek bottom. They had a Bulldozer, The Nord's Farmall M Tractor, Herendeen's truck, Leno's pick Up and his dog Rover broke to harness.

Part of the crew, pause for a coffee breac, Bob Herendeen, Leno Prestini, Tom Scriven, and Sol Twidwell.

Here comes the Nord boys. Talk about a road block. Are they ever going to be ticked about missing the Coffe break. And they wanted one last picture of the old pine out behind the hall not far from the outhouse. That tree drew a bigger crowd any Saturday night than that outhouse ever did.

Four sets of dollies and no roof sag. The route, a few hundred yards of fields, down an incline toward the creek bottom, parallel the creek for several hunderd yards till they reach the Nord barn yard.

There was a long way to go at this point. But a mile can be an eternity while holding your breath every inch of the way.

This is Lyle Nord with his dozer in 1952.

And a husky Farmall M along with Bob Herendeen's truck hitched to the front steering dolly were the main sources of power for the move.

So after decades of companionship this old tree was left to fend fir itself. Never again to recieve norishment from the thousands that flocked to the Hall of Fame. #456

Lyle and Jean on the Farmall M drawing lighter duty than pulling a Grange Hall down a creek bed, July 3, 1952.

Perched to keep watch across the Nord Estate and as far as the eye can see to the east and Beaver Creek green pasture and wooded mountains to the West. Rest assured this historical antique is in capable hands.

Leno recorded for all time, that historic ascension to its final destination.

Wilda and Clarence for a 1953 Family gathering.

Jean Decker and Lyle Nord, Septenber 20, 1949, the day they got their marriage license.

They took their wedding vows here on October 8, 1949.

When Warren and Lyle finished mowing and raking, then the work began.

One of the Nord boys has the strength to put a pitch fork in the end of a bale and pitch it up to the hay mow door where his Dad snags it with tines, drags to to the other end of the hay mow and stacks it neatly clear to the rafters.

The Nords raised beef cattle. In addition, Mr. Clarence Nord was the janitor and School Bus Driver for the Clayton School 9 months a year. I can personally state, he did his job well and in addition he helped every one of those hundred or so little ones that were in need. He was a Gentleman!

It might be more accurate to say that Clarence Nord was a member of the faculty. His classes lasted from picking up kids at the bus stop till he dropped them off in the afternoon.

Inside the old Barn is one of the loafing areas where the cattle are fed in the feeding stalls and are out of the disagreeable weather.

On Nov. 28th 1958 the last mile began. Wilda Nord kept her journal, recording in general the time line from start to "It is done"

So now the torch has been passed to Warren. He is now the Pariarch. Past 80 he is relegated chief advisor, commander in chief. He joyfully escorts interested people on a tour of Nords' Nostalgia.

So with a rather unheralded anouncement "GOT BLDG. HERE" on Dec 3rd 1958. We are a couple months shy of 50 Years ago.

The Lady that took a little time each day. year after year to write in her Journal, top left Wilda Nord, Oldest Son Lyle beside Jean beaming with pride at their pride and joy being held by Wildas Mother Mrs Scriven. Four Generations.

The aftermath of the moving of the hall is not dramatic but this is just a record of the daily happenings as Christmas neared and perhaps some thoughts of pride. They had saved a relic of the ages.

Thus ends this Nord segiment. But only the beginning because the children of Warren and Lyle and their Children have only just begun.
