Following our headstone expedition at Zion Hill Cemetery we proceeded to Deer Park. The Zion Church was locked. The lights were off, only a hint of sun light and the interior was far too dark for a photo. We were determined to show the similarity between this Church Sanctuary and Trysil, Norway, Lutheran. With the lens pressed against the window pane we pulled the trigger and look what transpired!

Emil and Margaret Tobeck were the parents of Lucille, Cecil, June, Margaret and Neal. They lived most of their lives on a farm in Big Foot Valley and were Clayton Grange #456 members.

STEVENS COUNTY, WASHINGTON. H.O.BERG FROM TRYSIL WAS THE FIRST TO SETTLE IN THE VACINITY OF CLAYTON. WHERE A SMALL NORWEGIAN SETTLEMENT SPRANG UP. HE CAME THERE IN 1889. NEXT CAME PAUL OLSEN, ALSO FROM TRYSIL, AS WELL AS MARTIN OLSON, OLE NELSON AND MARTIN IVERSON. Paster T.H. Tonessen of the Norwegian Synod established a congregation at that place in 1891. This (Trysil) congrgation built a church in 1902. It is to be hoped that the congregation will not allow itself to be split. H. signed--TULLA FROYEN. Martin Iverson, also homesteaded in Big Foot Valley in 1896.

The Tobeck's had a small Dairy farm but Emil had to work at the Clayton Brick yard to suport the farm and family. When the Brick plant closed and the Merc. burned, Emil and Margaret opened a small grocery store in Clayton and they lived happily ever after.

Martin and Anna Olson, Son Oliver, Daughters Ruth holding her 2 yr. old son Marvin, Ruby and Ester. Ruth Stelting's oldest Art standing in front was born in June 1924 while his little brother 2yr. old Marvin died in Dec, 1928.

Norway born, Karinius Dahl, brother in law to Louis/Lars Olsson. Louis's wife was Hanna Dahl, sister to Karinius. Hanna was born Aug 14, 1858. Lars Louis was born Sept. 13, 1857. Married in 1878. Karinus was the architect and builder of the Trysil Church.

Martin Olson, Married to Anna Satre Olson. Martin, son of Ola Torberget and Rangdi Mortensdatter Torberget. Martin was also Great Uncle to Hallgeir Brenden, Olympic Gold medalist. as well as Clark Satre. Mr. Olson filed for Homestead rights in Big Foot Valley in July of 1896. An Immigrant from Trysil Norway. The Headstones were made by the Satre's Son Oliver.

Even Loomis settled on what is now the Nord farm. He built his dream house and family here. But he lost his house to a fire, became disheartened and moved on.

Ernest James Stelting, Husband of Ruth Olson Stelting. Long time employee at the WaShington Brick and Lime.

Mr. And Mrs. Jacob Gibson were among the early pioneers that settled in Big Foot Valley where they filed for Homestead rights in 1896. They raised their family on this farm until about 1942. One Son, Paul Gibson wais the epitimy of success, not only as a rancher which included the awarding of Rancher of the year presented by Gov. Rosalini himself, but He and his wife Ella raised two children that have resided in the Clayton/Deer Park area ever since. Margaret Gibson Daugherty and Paul Robert and his wife Lilly Mae Lowry Gibson. Paul Robert known as Bob Gibson inherited a most wonderful trait from his Father. A PERPETUAL SMILE.

Ruth Stelting, daughter of Martin and Anna Olson and cousin of Clark Satre was a pillar at the Clayton Community Church. She and her husband Jim were the parents of Clayton Art Stelting now residing at Loon Lake, WA.
