Clayton Brickyard Day the first Saturday in August. One Day a year in the life of Clayton, Washington.

August 2, 2008, will be our next Brickyard Day. It will start early with a breakfast and fun run at the Clayton Drive In. Later will be the parade. At the Clayton School will be a history and art display as well as a barbecue. A quilt show will be held at the Grange Hall. Plan now to be part of the fun.

The Parade is just starting to come around the bend. This was a good parade for a very good sized crowd of onlookers.

And more in the opposite direction. Many more joined them as word spread, "Here comes the parade."

Grand Marshal! This is Mrs. Vera Spaulding, joined by her son George and her niece Minnie Westby Hayworth. Vera still lives on the Cowan Wind Homestead which has been in the capable hands of the family since its inception. Gongratulations Vera. A grand Lady!

The rebuilt Grange Hall will receive the final touches for the grand reopening in October of this year. The members of the Fat Quarter Quilt Club display their talents in the upstairs of the Clayton Grange Hall.

The lower floor has received the final touches. First class stainless steel kitchen appliances have been installed and special occasion meals have already been served.

President Bill Sebright of the Clayton Deer Park Historical Society, manning the display booth. This was the introduction of our latest aquired original painting by renowned local Artist, the Late Leno Prestini, near right. Leno painted and presented it to his lifelong friend Silvio Costa. And was Donated by Duane and Bruno Costa to our Society on July 17. 2007. Several local artists displayed their talents as well.

A young lady, proud of her well marked pinto pony.

FFA. Future Farmers of America. I am quite sure I over heard this Father say " Now you see here Son, to give you an idea how old this Clayton side walk is, this is a Dinosaur track"

Long time Claytonites, Ray Bockemuehl, Duane Costa, Rita and Dick Casberg. The Cream of the crop.

A Restored 1932 Olds Coupe. There was a Antique car show on the west end of town on Brickyard day. I doubt any showed better than this one.

Formerly the Ramble In, now the Brickyard Tavern, it has been here as a tavern for many decades. This building was the second school house when Clayton was young. Today it still has that downhome atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable. The building can be seen as a school and private home on Clayton Page 3.

A high stepping Clydesdale and his proud owner.

The Clayton Community Bible Church. It was a small but steady Congregation. Today it thrives with an unbelievable youth group. This is just a guess but its doubtful you hear much of "Give me that old time religion".

A few of the Clayton Natives. L to R. Warren Nord, Ray Bockemuelh, Duane Costa, Cecil Tobeck and Bob Clouse.

These young ladies will remember riding in the parade for the rest of their lives. Beautiful horses and all.

I hear tell this little cow girl's heart was beating louder and faster than the hoofbeats of the great horse, Scout.

Pure Beauty.

Deer Park VFW's color guard.

Pretty in purple!

The Clayton Community Fair Float of 2006

This versatile parade, you can see antique cars, floats and horseback riders. Here comes Shorty Daugherty. He is well known for jokes and its a wonder he didn't drop the blade and spread those road apples around a bit.

A Rather small Clydesdale and a Sheland Pony.

This Clayton Community Church under the guidance of Pastor Tony Goodner has expanded by leaps and bounds. Included is the new chapel with high tech projectors and sound system. This Church built about 1900 is one Clayton's claims to fame.

Following all the Clayton Brickyard Day Festivities with the 7:00 AM breakfast and Fun Run, The Parade, Quilt Display at the newly rebuilt Grange Hall, then the Barbecue party at the restored Clayton School, Clayton reverts back to a quiet little Mecca. Many of these people then go a few short miles north to the Old Loon Lake School and Loon Lake Historical Society Museum. Here is an Arts and Craft show. The old School building itself is a sight to behold.

This little brick school house is now the Loon Lake Community center, owned by the LLHS. The Museum with original Leno Prestini paintings, an archive of all school photos from its inception, and this is most important, the volunteers help the public enjoy history.

Loren Lentz is one of the kids! It has to be moments like this that make it all worthwhile for the Brickyard Day Volunteers. We all thank you for a job well done over these last two decades.

During the Parade this young man in the blue T-shirt, Andy Carlson, announces each paticipant, supplying information to the bystanders. He gave a particularly good dissertation describing the life and times of this year's Grand Marshal, Mrs. Vera Spaulding. We would like to thank him for a job well done, this year and many years gone by. Thus ends this episode of Clayton Brick yard Day 2007. RAC
