When the Grandfather of Herman Ziebell Jr. settled in the Deer Park area he bought 3 farms. One for each of his Children. This is the farm of Herman Sr. ( NOTE) The Zibell story is continued at the bottom of the Deer Park Album 6.

When the original Gardenspot Grange Hall was replaced, the Zibells built this barn and milk house with the salvaged lumber.
Herman Jr. was born in this house in 1931. Mr. Zibell took the Girls all down stairs as the time neared. When the blessed event was over they all rushed up to see their Mother and their brand new baby brother Herman. Thrilled at the idea of a boy the entire family proceeded to pamper him. Somehow Mr. & Mrs. Zibell and his sisters raised him to be all boy, all man that stood on his own two feet and he did just that.
The Herman Zibell SR. family about 1945. Herman Jr, Luella, Dorthy, Mrs. Elvina Zibell, Mr. Herman Sr and Elsie.
In 1867 Oliver H. Kelly foresaw the need to form a union for the protection of farmers scattered out across the nation. Farmers were taken advantage of by railroads, grain elevators, and any organization where the farmers sold their products. They were at the total mercy of the middle man. Originally named Patrons of Husbandry and later changed to Grange, simply because it means grain or farm buildings. The Grange formed such organizations as the Farmers Union, CO-OP etc. Grange Halls provided a meeting place and also dances were held on alternating Saturday nights. Granges flourished, then went into decline, but many are active to this day. One thing that hasn't changed is the farmer is still taken advantage of. Case in point, the Dairyman's Association set up to help the dairy farmer, but also to oversee that the farmers adhered to certain health critieria which is what it should be. They also dictated the regulations requiring farmers repacing milking barns with milking parlors. Milk houses had to be refitted with the latest milk coolers, the most elaborate sterilization equipment, and refrigeration storage facilities. No sooner than the farmer satisfied the current requiements, when another round of new regulations came along. This endless procedures were so costly, it drove the small rancher out, leaving only a select few. And to this day when you see milk prices sky rocket, because of some percieved shortage. The very last one to feel the increase is the farmer. And that increase is so minuscule as to be hardly noticeable and the middleman reaps the profit. So the next time you scoot up to the dinner table and start bad mouthing those rich farmers, I would heartily recommend a change of heart and when asking the blessing. You should ask God to bless the ones that supplied the food set before you. There isn't a soul on the face of this earth with more courage than a farmer.
